Specialties Case Management

Specializes in Med/Surg, Psych.

I have an interview for a case manager position in the hospital I work for. I have almost 2 years of med surg experience as an rn and I have a year of psych experience. I would love to enter case management, it seems interesting to me. I also am interested in the more business side of nursing. Is there anything in particular I should expect to be asked in this interview? Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you

"Why do you want to take this position?"

You already have two good answers to that. Add that you like the definition of case management, you think your background could be very helpful in coordinating care between disciplines and settings, and you are eager to learn how they do that in their department. You would also like to look forward to earning case management certification as your skills increase.

You can do the CCM with a 4-year degree in some health-related field, like nursing; also look up the ANCC Nurse case management certification; look these up and be familiar with them and their requirements so you can answer the next question:

"What do you know about case management?" HINT: It's a lot more than discharge planning, and you must really understand that.
