Continuous ST Monitoring

Is anyone using continuous ST Monitoring? Do you have protocols in place, routines? For example- ST change of >2mm x 30 sec, obtaing EKG for verification, call MD..... Any ideas. Our new system goes live soon and I'm just trying to figure pout how to get the best use out of it. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard, Barbara! We don't have a written protocol for ST segments. But if we do notice elevation we first check the patient. It may be positional. It sometimes occurs if a patient is on his/her left side. If not positional and is associated with chest pain or change in vitals, then treat it.

Welcome aboard Allnurses, Barbara! I agree with Mollymo......it is ALWAYS best to check the patient to see what they are doing because a certain increase in their activity may increase their ST levels.
