UBC Nursing - Sep. 2012

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hello Everyone!

I am considering applying to UBC Nursing for the September 2012 intake... but I'm not quite sure if I'm eligible to apply...

My primary concern is my post-secondary credits... everyone seems to have already completed a Bachelor's before applying? As of now, I have 40+ credits... by the end of June 2010 I'll have 50+ credits (which is the deadline for all transcripts), but they're a combination of first-year science, calculus and language courses with only a couple of second year o-chem... would that be ok?

I am currently a Langara student, but I have studied at SFU before until my relocation.

I've also read on the website that the average age of applicants were 21-47 (please don't quote me on this, I can't remember the exact range)... and I'm now 18 (will soon turn 19 though), but I have the requirements it's just that I'm unsure if it's alright that my 50+ credits are mostly first-year...

My GPA now is 3.3 and hoping to boost it up after this semester...

I volunteer regularly at a senior home and am a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor, worked part-time at Timmys until relocation and now have a part-time job at a local grocery store... I just hope age isn't that big of a deal because I know what I want and I'm working for it...

Should I apply at all...

(Very Worried. HELP Please!!!)

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Hmm....I get the feeling that admissions won't be offered until Bio 153 marks are out because for the people that have applied and are in the process of completing Bio 153, they can't make offers to them unless they pass Bio 153. Since marks aren't even out now, they can't make offers to those people at all.

I wonder if they're going to wait on the people that have completed Bio 153 too, so that they make offers after they have completed final transcripts for all the candidates.

They'll probably make offers conditional upon the successful completion of the pre-requisite. They wouldn't wait for marks to come out, otherwise they'd be waiting til June 15.

Any time now I think.

They wouldn't wait until June 15...... the marks for the winter session counts only. You can't do the summer session Bio 153 for entry into nursing in September.

Everyone has finished the finals for Bio 153 more than 2 weeks ago, marks are supposed to be out any day now.

Yes, but some people are taking Bio 153 equivalents through other institutions such as Athabasca (like myself), and the transcript deadline is June 15th. Not everyone is doing it through UBC.

HOW ABOUT NOW!?!?!?

(I'm enthusiastic, not impatient.)

I was just wondering if they're waiting for the Bio 153 grades for UBC people, that's all.

I understand. I was just suggesting that that probably isn't the case because there are others who have applied to the program who are taking the pre-requisite elsewhere and they are allowing a transcript deadline of June 15th, and like you said, they are probably not going to wait until June 15th... so I assume that they would send out offers anyways, conditional upon passing the course.

Waiting sucks!

(To Make the Waiting Less Wait-Filled and More Groan-Filled)

Yesterday I got an email from another school that I've applied to but haven't heard from yet. It included the following:

Please join [person] Dean of [school], for a Nursing Applicant Reception, [time], [place].

Whether you have already accepted your Offer of Admission or have not yet made a decision, this informal reception provides an opportunity for you to ...

Who else would have found that confusing?

Confusing indeed. That sounds like they sent you an offer of admission but forgot to tell you or something?

That's what I thought! So I asked. And ... nothing. Still waiting.

Lol!!! That is so confuzzling!! Very odd haha. Well if you did indeed get accepted to their program then CONGRATS!! :D

I am heading out for South-East Asia tomorrow all! I'll try to check back on this site whenever I can (I won't have much internet access as I'll be volunteering in an underdeveloped remote village with no electricity). Hope the next time I check in I will see some of you have received an offer!! I'll only find out whether I got in/not while I'm there...and only when I'm able to access the internet in the city (which will be rarely). :uhoh3: So muchhhh longer wait for me haha.

Good luck you guys!!!!! :yeah:Hope you all have a great start to the summer!!
