  1. I know for sure because I've done all the paperwork already, and was told by *****, the program assistant that I'm all set. You have to write a deferral letter explaining your reasons to *****, the program coordinator. I emailed mine to *****, and she brought it to the admissions committee to discuss. Then from there, they will either approve or disapprove the deferral. But contact ****, she responds to emails almost immediately and is SUPER helpful through the process. The entire process after sending in the deferral request letter only took a day before they gave me their decision. Then after that you have to sign a few things and fill out a few forms.

  3. I'm just waiting for my deferral instruction package. I'm pretty sure once I get the instructions the first person on the waitlist is going to get an offer.
  4. I'm not sure about UBC-O or the RN program, but it costs me at least 7k a year here in Vancouver at UBC Point Grey. My tuition every year just for regular classes 10 courses a year, is about 5800-5900 plus books and random fees here and there. So I don't think 8000 is far off considering for the nursing program you're probably going to need more books and pay more lab fees.
  5. Recently I discovered that the Vancouver Sun publishes the names, employers, and titles of all the employees working in public sectors being paid over 75,000 a year. I was shocked to see that the top earning nurses are making upwards of 180000 a year! How is that possible considering the maximum hourly wage for nurses in B.C. (as far as I know) is 40.42? If you do a calculation, 40.42 an hour, 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year should only be 82,000. Even with time and a half (or double pay) during holidays, maximum should not be more than double that number? Also, I thought maybe these RNs are in supervisory positions or teaching positions but the positions listed does not seem to indicate that? Here's some data taken from Vancouver Sun Public Sector Salaries - Vancouver Sun I haven't started a nursing career yet, so forgive me if I ask silly questions. First thing is what is the difference between nurse direct patient care and registered nurse? Secondly, the 2 RNs on here, how can they rack up that many hours to end up with the salary they are getting? Are they working a lot of overtime hours? (aren't there laws preventing that?)
  6. One of the other threads about scheduling piqued my interest. I understand every hospital is different and everyone has different schedules but I wanted to see what kind of variation one could expect. So....RNs: Are you guys... full time part time casual also do you have a standard schedule, if yes, what is it, if not, what does your monthly schedule look like? How many hours are you getting if you're part time/casual? Is it because you wanted that many hours (for pt/casual) or there are not enough shifts for you?

  9. Got my acceptance email. I need to ask the student advisor for a possible deferral to next year though, although I doubt they'll agree. We'll see how this goes.
  10. I was just wondering if they're waiting for the Bio 153 grades for UBC people, that's all.
  11. They wouldn't wait until June 15...... the marks for the winter session counts only. You can't do the summer session Bio 153 for entry into nursing in September. Everyone has finished the finals for Bio 153 more than 2 weeks ago, marks are supposed to be out any day now.

Hmm....I get the feeling that admissions won't be offered until Bio 153 marks are out because for the people that have applied and are in the process of completing Bio 153, they can't make offers to them unless they pass Bio 153. Since marks aren't even out now, they can't make offers to those people at all. I wonder if they're going to wait on the people that have completed Bio 153 too, so that they make offers after they have completed final transcripts for all the candidates.

  14. It's 2-3 weeks from the last day of interviews. They have to evaluate everyone before deciding.
  15. I do agree 2 of the interviewers in my group didn't say anything or even introduce themselves. Didn't really feel like that was appropriate, at least say hi to the people being interviewed.... Also considering that we were told the interviewers would introduce themselves. One person I went in and she didn't even say anything to me. I introduced myself and she just nodded, I had to ask her if she just wants me to start on the scenario or what.. because I was waiting for her to at least say hi or something. But the experience was really fun, like a game, even gave me a bit of an adrenaline rush trying to get to the right stations and keep within the time limits. I'm pretty positive I got a spot though. I'm pretty confident that I did my interviews well.
