Masters/Nurse Practitioner Programs in Ontario

World Canada CA Programs

Published

hello!

i'm going to be applying for the primary health nurse practitioner program at three universities: york, ryerson and mcmaster. i don't know anyone that has done these programs and i guess i'm just wondering how competitive it is to get in. my gpa in university over all was a 3.5 and in nursing it was a 4.0 (i did a two year program at ubc). i currently work in an ER but i lack any "research" qualities because all i've done since i've graduated is work, and most of the phnp programs are combination masters degrees.

does anybody have any tips or suggestions for a successful application? any help would be great. i think i'm worried because i don't have a lot of "outside of clinical" experience with organizations or anything. i've taken my acls and had to do a course for ER but that's kind of it. any help i could get would be lovely!

also! one more thing:

in terms of references, i've only really worked at my new position in the ER for about two months now. i'm not that close with the manager so would it be more appropriate to ask my old manager for a reference? i don't really know what the etiquette is around the whole asking someone who just hired you for a reference... i feel like i'd kind of be annoyed that my employee is ready to split so soon.
