Before the Morning (Failed CRNE three times. what now?)

World Canada CRNE

Published

I just received a bad news. My nursing career is over. Yes, I am no longer one of you, but I feel a need to share my story. I have failed the CRNE for the third time and honestly, I don't know what is there left for me. I know things happen for a reason. sometimes, i just think that GOD is being so unfair. Throughout my nursing school, all i did was to do my best both theory and clinical. I have received praises being a "very good" Graduate Nurse. But then again, all has to end with an examination that I can't seem to pass even though I have put my thoughts and heart on preparing for it. At some point, I think of myself as a dumb individual, up for no good. If nursing was not meant for me, why did HE made it possible for me to even complete my Degree Program? I have so many questions to GOD right now. I have prayed hard for that moment of finally receiving a letter with the word "PASS" on it, but instead a phone call saying I have failed on my third attempt and had to wait for a letter containing my options.

Nursing Has always been my dream and I can't see myself pursuing other career in life. I don't think I can handle another 4 years of schooling or even the strength to even try to put my life back on track. I know that God has a reason for why I'm going through this test right now (one I consider the hardest test in my life, so far), and probably there is more to come. I have so much faith in him that in spite it all, I still look forward to that one morning of waking up from my sleep and the pain, the sadness, the sufferings are over. I know that HE works in ways unimaginable. I know that he hears my prayer and in his own time he'll grant those prayers. But for now, all I needed is some sort of encouragement from you, whoever you are reading this post right now.

I still thank GOD because I have my life, I am breathing, I can still appreciate all the good things he had created. As long as there is tomorrow, I will continue to fight a good fight!

is there anyone who passed on their third attempt?

i just failed my second, by two points. as many of you have felt, i am completely heart broken.

the next attempt is my final. my last hope.

i just need to know if there are others out there who failed their first two attempts and passed the third.

i haven't been able to go through all the posts but is seems any who failed their first and second fail their third as well.

Dear Friend

I appreciate your positivity and I believe that HE might have thought something different and better for you. Our good wishes are with you and never loose hope.

Hey that is not true. I failed twice and passed in my third time. I was terrified to go the third time but at the same time I was relief and confident that I had done everything what I had to do and work harder than ever before I even try to attempt the Third Time.

Trust yourself, regain your confidence, think positive, and find people who will motivate you to move forward.

Reflect on what you need to improve, and think what you need to do to pass this exam ( you may need different approach/strategies) . In addition, Look through other postings in this website from other graduates what they have done to achieve their exam, there is a link in all of them, take them, take a little bit of everyone and make links, and find your own style, and their is a big possibility that you succeed in this exam.

You can do it, I wish you all the best!!!Yes You can Pass the Third Time!!:lol2:

I am so scared. I just found out yesterday that I failed, and its the second time. I really need to study more this time. so thank you for the advise. I know that if you fail three times, the CNO wants you to do your degree over again. I will not write this February, but will wait until June I think. I will take your suggestions, I need to work I LOVE nursing!

I wish you all the very best. Take your time, enjoy the holidays, study harder than ever before and you will succeed. Trust me, sometimes it is better to wait - it will be worthwhile for you. It worked for me, it should work for you as well!!!

Hi harrydesantos:

I want to ask you: what strategies did you use for the last crne? and what is your plan of attack for this next time?

Because you will do the exam in June which you will have approximately 6 months if you decide to enjoy the holidays which i really would recommend you do.

If you can have someone to keep you on your feet until june because during the winter months can be very comfy if you know what I mean. Because you have plenty of time before the exam but always remember to keep on your feet even you when you start getting negative thoughts Keep on Going and Keep your Brain Occupied by start doing a LOT of Questions instead, Make Sure you understand the stem of the questions what are they really really asking you, don't get confused and alarmed with the amount of information that you see in the case scenerio, read it throughly once and then read what the question is asking, it is very Crucial = This is Critical Thinking ( this is the clue to your answer, it will work, this is the reason why you need to do a lot a lot a lot of questions because practice will gain your confidence and will produce perfection).

I don't know about you but I am a morning person and when I started my plan in January 2011 I used to get up around 530am every morning, had breakfast with a cup of coffee and study all day 6-8 hours per day but I would take a break every hour, snacks and lunch and I'll have all the evening to my self doing unrelated nursing activities to give my brain a break. whatever works for you, you are your own boss.

I am a positive person and I believe in achieving and working hard. If you ever feel down and out while studying, let me know I can be your motivator. Good Luck:up:

Since i've failed the crne 3 times and decided to research what my next option was, in terms of becoming competent and eligible to re write the exam; I've written the PN exam and successfully passed on the very first try. I know this seems to anger alot of people (particularly RPNs), but for those that failed the crne 3 times take this route to your advantage before the CNO decides to remove these options. I am now a working RPN, however just know it was not an easy task. You will be faced with employers who won't hire you because you've failed the crne, you will be competing with other RPNs who are applying for positions, and you will be in multiple interviews constantly asking why you've failed, why your not an RN, and why couldn't you pass. All I can say is keep your head up and be honest in your interviews. I had numerous interviews and the organization that hired me, hired me because I was honest about failing the crne 3 times and demonstrated my drive to further my EDUCATION and DEVELOP and FOCUS on my WEAKNESSES (which everyone has and is different from everyone). Now that am hired doesn't mean i've accomplished my goals or its an easy road from here, because like any RN or RPN your license can be taken away for many incompetencies. Therefore be prepared to work hard and stumble a bit before leaping ahead.

Furthermore, I've researched high and low, about bridging programs from RPN to RN, Refresher programs, and the NCLEX.

With the RPN bridging your likelihood of getting accepted would be very long and negative, because most schools (in ontario) will not accept you given that you already have the degree (which makes a lot of sense), but it doesn't hurt to continuously try.

Refresher programs are geared to internationally educated students or RNs who've been out of work for 5 years, which i've had many schools such as George Brown tell me that I am not qualifed. However, keep trying!!! Mohawk has an RN refresher program and the first steps to apply is mailing your resume of working experience and a letter of direction from the CNO. (if you failed your CRNE 3 times we all have this letter).

Minnesota State Board of Nursing (NCLEX) i've found to be inexpensive and quick with their responses. I have friends who've completed the NCLEX process through Minnesota within one year and it doesn't require your canadian license. Just be aware that the NCLEX is an entirely different exam and if you've failed the crne 3 times, i would recommend taking courses in writing the NCLEX and giving maybe more time to study and UNDERSTAND the content as you would if you had another shot at the CRNE!

Hope this helps those who've feel that desire and drive to never give up despite the ups and downs and the negative comments, because you can do anything you apply yourself in doing. Someone out there will see this determination and help you along your journey.
