Sac State and CSU Stanislaus launch ABSN in Stockton

Just wanted to get the word out there that Sacramento State and CSU Stanislaus are launching an accelerated second bachelor's program for nursing. The first class is supposed to start August 2011 and the program is 15 months long. Classes are supposed to be held in Stockton. The downside is that the cost is $35K. You can register your interest on the CSU Stanislaus extended learning website.

^Exactly my thoughts! Thirty-five thousand is a lot. Perhaps they have more resources for the students?

If they do, it's not worth that kind of money.

I have been in contact with CSU Stan and was considering this option, but considering all of the RNs in the area who are having trouble finding jobs, I cant stomach the idea of having so much debt and not being able to find a job. I have decided to go the community college route to save money, then complete my MSN online, since I already have a BS degree in a non nursing field.

They also told me that you are not allowed to work while in the program, which seals the deal for me, because I cannot afford to NOT work. I am interested in finding out, how many students are considering the program though. The price is in line with other ABSN programs, so its good that we will have this option in the area.

How long did it take for someone to contact you after you expressed interest? I have some questions about the program that I am hoping they can answer!

Awesome...but $35K???? That's too much ! I wonder why it would cost THAT much?!!
I'm trying to get into any ADN program just the fact it's a lot cheaper....but if I have no luck getting in...I'm going to apply for the ABSN programs out there....

Are you considering going into that program instead??

@CaliHapaGirl82 - this program is run out of extended education, just like CSUSM, so they receive no support from the State and are more expensive because they are self supporting.

oh hey again oaktown! CaliHapaGirl, oaktown is right. it looks like Sac State and CSU Stan are modeling their program based on the ABSN offered by CSU San Marcos. Since extended learning doesn't receive state support like all the other programs that the CSU campuses offer, they need to charge more in tuition to cover the expense of providing an acceptable education (nursing programs are some of the most expensive programs to sustain, you need to pay for instructors, equipment, and practice mannequins). there are many grants and scholarships geared towards nursing students anyways to help you cover (some of) it. also, i plan to join the air force after graduation so there are some loan repayment options out there although i am aware the job market has taken a nosedive right now for new grads.
