Pre-nursing student needs your advice! Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I've been worried about the budget cuts that have been going around in California and how that impacts the rest of us students who are in the process of finishing up the pre-reqs to apply to nursing school. I have already earned my BS degree in Human Biology and therefore I'm really interested in the ELMSN and ABSN programs. To increase my chances of getting into somewhere, I'm also planning to just put my name in the lottery system at the local community colleges (these would be my back ups). My undergrad GPA isn't impressive so I'm trying to make up for it by getting straight A's in my pre-req courses, which I have been doing. I'm just so worried that I won't get into anywhere around the Bay Area and California in general and I'm so scared that I would have to re-apply and wait years and years just to get into a nursing program since many CSU programs are cut and aren't accepting apps at all. I can't imagine myself doing anything else but nursing....I was looking at public health grad school programs for environmental health or something but I'm not sure if that's what I really want. Will this whole nursing school being impacted problem get better? Is it even possible for me to get into somewhere?! I'm just so frustrated and worried about my future. I feel like the waiting game is just keeping me from starting a life and my career. I just need to hear some advice. Thanks so much for your time and I apologize for rambling on...

Keep moving forward. I am starting an ADN program in the Fall, and have my BA. I didn't get into USF's CNL program, and that's fine because I wouldn't want to be in all of that debt anyway when we all are going to work as new grad staff nurses eventually when we get out.

Basically, apply everywhere and go to the first school that accepts you. With all of the schools around here, you will get in somewhere. Regarding Public Health, I worked with two MPHs at my last job, and they both regret doing public health a bit, and wish they would have done nursing instead. Remember, you can always go into public health as a nurse, but cannot be a nurse with an MPH. Good luck to you! I felt the same way as you, but the pre-reqs go by fast. Before you know it, you will be starting nursing school.

just do your pre reqs and apply.. where in socal are you? i have my BA degree as well.. therefore applying and going to a csu was a nono for me... no more loans..... adn is good enough.. but if you want to get ur MA in nursing then go the BA route afterwards.....p s y did u do Bio? pre med? pharm school? but good luck on what ever you do

o u said bay area... im sleepy idk much about the bay.... in socal nursing schools right now are very tough to get into
