Getting married during Samuel Merritt ABSN program?

U.S.A. California

Hi all,

I plan on applying for the Samuel Merritt Fall 2011 ABSN program, and I plan on getting married in October 2012. In the event that I get accepted, I will still be in the program come October 2012. Any thoughts on if it'll be difficult to get married while in the program?

For those in the program how intense is the last month of the program? Are professors understanding about taking 1-2 days off? Can clinical rotations work accommodate me the weekend of the wedding?

Thanks for your help!

It's intense from beginning to end. You might be able to take off a day or two of lectures, but not clinicals.

Are you applying to the regular BSN or Accelerated BSN? Lots of our classes only met once a week and some teachers said if you miss a day you get docked a half letter grade automatically. Some of the classes had an exam every week. The first hour of class would be an exam, with the rest being lecture. You couldn't miss that because that was your whole weeks worth (prob several weeks worth in a non-accelerated program). If you will be in the very last term of nursing school during when you plan to have your wedding that would be the same time you are in the middle of your preceptorship. Most of us got our preceptorship assignments very late. I think mine was at least 2 weeks late not counting me then having to communicate with the nurse I was assigned to. It left me having to work every single one of her shifts from that point to the end of the program in order to get my hours required.

That being said, there are some times when by luck, because of when you get assigned clinicals, you may end up with a few days off that you could do something with... like get married :)
