Hello all, my name is Felicia. Im currently an LPN and doing Excelsior LPN to ASN program. I am just wondering if any of you nurses know of any hospitals, home health agencies, or any other RN avenues that are willing to take me on to shadow. Do you have to apply for a "position" or simply ask around? Im not aware of how this works and would love to be enlightened. Im not currently working, but I am a SAHM and would love to do some shadowing in ANY setting while I finish my program. Thanks for any available information.

i am very interested in shadowing opportunities as well; i hope someone can provide some more information :) i have an interview for a volunteer position today with banner good sam...who knows, maybe they'll have a shadowing type of position that i can volunteer in.

I would just call and ask a charge nurse on a unit you are interested in; the worst that can happen is you get a "no".

Sorry...I am a new nursing student and don't know much about how to get a hold of the charge nurse. Would I just call the hospital and ask to speak with the charge nurse in the ER for example?

Thanks!!

Pretty much. Just explain what and why and then ask if you can shadow. Many place will probably say no; however you never know. Good Luck!

Thanks Jeff, appreciate your input.

Yes, just call a hospital and ask to speak to the charge nurse on the floor or unit where you want to shadow. I work at MMC and we often have people shadow, even high school students. Good luck.
