How long is the waiting list for the LPN program offered a Pima Community College? I have been unsuccessful finding this info online.

Last I heard it was 1-2 semesters.

Pima no longer has a seperate LPN program, it's part of the regular RN program. During your second semester (or at least that's how they did it this semester), they let students sign up for the extra LPN classes with priority given to the students that plan to stop with their LPN license. So since it's part of the regular nursing program, you have to look at the waiting list for that, which last I yeard is a year and a half or so?

Yeah, I think it's just an 8 week program that involves an extra class and an extra clinical day for the last 8 weeks of the second semester. Don't quote me on that though, I'm not in the program so I'm fuzzy on the details. Your best bet is to talk to the nursing advisor at the west campus. In my experience, non-nursing advisors can unintentionally lead you in the wrong direction and let's face it, who has time for that?

No, I knew about the extra little class, I didn't know about the free-standing LPN program being eliminated.

And I agree about the non-nursing advisors..they are almost always wrong!

i just asked some of the pima instructors and they said that the free standing lpn program at the desert vista campus is still running.

the certificate is also offered at the center for training and development but you will not earn college credit.

Huh. Well, yet another example to take everything told to you by an advisor with a huge grain of salt! Again, I would strongly suggest talking to a nursing program advisor for specific information, since it's clear that there's a lot of misinformation floating around.

hi, i was wondering if you decided to get into this program at ctd through pima? i am thinking of applying and was wanting any type of feedback i can find! any help would be appreciated. :)

I was also thinking of taking it, you must have your CNA and pass a basic math and reading test have a finger print card and pass a drug test. Also with this you must work a full year as an LPN to get into a RN program at the 3rd block that was my goal and if I dont get into the RN program for this fall 2010 I will do the CTD program I'm done waiting. I've got all pre reqs done so this is my other opition. Good Luck

Hi, I started CTD's LPN program last Jan of 2010. I entered in as an advanced placement student because I had A&P already. Anyhow, it is our understanding that you do not have to work one year as an LPN in order to get fast tracked into Pima's RN program. However, you do of course have to have your prereqs, i.e. math and English and others. FYI. I will not be on this site very frequently due to the intensity of the program. I don't work and would suggest that anyone in such a program work no more than 2, maybe, 3 days a week max. We are given an exam each and every Monday. By the way, the program is very doable, however, it is necessary to allocate at least 1-2 hours/day to study. Lots of tricky questions pop up on our tests. You know the type? The ones that ask you to choose the correct answer, yet two of the four chooses given are extremely close. It not about sheer memorization in nursing school. It's more about critical thinking. Alright! Enough from me.

The Nursing director told me herself face to face that if you do the LPN thru the CTD you must work a full year as a licensed LPN before they let you into the 3rd block at Pima for the RN. It's because it's clock hour not college credits. I was told by other schools you dont have to just need the licenses. If you have time maybe you could see what they tell you. I also have all pre reqs done every single last one.

What is advanced placement do for you? Where does it put you in the program? Does it cut down school time? I also guess I would need my CNA even though I went to the college in Sierra Vista for 10mths to get my MA and did way more then a CNA. We did phlebotomy's, IV's all kinds of stuff, I was hoping to maybe be able to use that so I dont have to waste anymore time. I spoke with the head teacher for our class she's a retired nurse and said we learn way more then you do in the CNA class that only takes a 1mth down here. But if I gotta do it I'll do it just wanna get done.

Oh yea how long was the wait to start?
