May 2011 NAU accelerated nursing program hopefuls!

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I'm finishing up some prerequisites and taking the HESI test on Tuesday for the January deadline. I'm a bit nervous! I wanted to see if there are any other accelerated program hopefuls applying for NAU this spring!?

Also, for the HESI, I heard that there is a&p, chem, bio, math, NO physics, but is there a grammar and a reading section?

Good luck to all in the application process!

Oh, and PS, I had to send out every PM one at a time, with a minute between each...making it quite likely I forgot someone, so please don't hesitate to let me know if I missed you! I have a little over half of the posters, so I'll wait another day and send the list out.

Hi everyone, I am in the current accelerated program ( graduating in may!) and popped on here to see how things were going. Congrats on being accepted! Our adviser told us there were 130 qualified applicants this year which is much higher than the 60 we had last year. The fact that it dropped to 12 months enticed a lot of applicants. I came from California and out of state tuition has cost me over 28k plus books, expenses and living. It is a lot more than in state tuition. We had 10 men out of 29 students so who ever said 2-3 was a bit off : )

Check out Forest meadows apartments, its right up the street from walmart and a close walk and I have no complaints from living here.

Good luck with everything, you will all do great! study study study!

Katsie, I love that you posted on their message board! You're so supportive and inspiring!!!

So, I am also a current accelerated student and happy that so many of you got in! GREAT JOB GUYS!!! The competition was fierce. I'm sure you're all anxious to get here, just like we were last year. Don't stress out too much, this is a time for celebration and relief! I second Katsie's opinion on Forest Meadows Apts as well as her tuition assessment. However, it is probably less than half that much if you are in-state. Good luck with the paperwork!

Hi run, can you send me out a PM again? (Sorry... I saw it once and then it was gone before I had a chance to reply... :() Thanks! :)

And by the way, thanks Vepeters and Katsie for your posts, info. re: tuition, and your encouragement to all of us! You guys rock! :D

Life, sent ya another PM, let me know if you get it :)

And Vepeters and katsie, I second the thanks! I hope I can join all of your ranks in a few weeks! Or at least know a "yes" or "no," haha.

Hi Katsie & Vepeters!

So cool of you guys to stop in and give your encouragement! Would you mind sharing your opinions about the program? I am curious as to how are you feeling in your 10thish month? Did you have any time to sleep?:) Best of luck to you both, and thanks again for your words!

I'm curious, too, to know how much time you all are in classes, clinicals, and studying each week. Do you ever get down time, or is it go-go-go?

Thanks so much for sharing your perspectives!

Got your PM RunMt, thanks! :)

Yes, don't fret there is plenty of time to have a life while in the program. In my opinion, the program starts slow enough for you to get accustomed to being in school and you are just itching to start doing "real" nursing things. It feels like forever ago, but I remember having a LOT of spare time in the summer months to the point where I wished I was more busy. It really picked up during our fundamentals course but they are completely re-doing the summer curriculum so hopefully it will be better organized for you all. Fall semester has an online nursing research course which I think they are changing for you guys. We had some issues with it because it was insanely time consuming and frustrating. But, the faculty know this and will hopefully be switching things up. We also had med surg lectures from 8 am - 12pm on monday and tuesday and then 2 days of clinicals, either in Flagstaff or Kingman (2hours away). Its a pretty busy semester, a lot of reading for med surg and 4 hour lectures require a lot of coffee to keep you focused. You get over a month off for winter break, so nice. Spring semester starts FAST! By the second week of class I was more stressed than the entire 9 months before combined. There is a lot of group work and its pretty exhausting. But now that that first month is over, it is a lot better. In fact, we only have class on monday afternoons and 1 day of clinical which is great. We have spring break next week and then end of April we start our capstone which is about half the hours of what the traditional program get. It is pretty fast so make sure you learn as much as you can during med surg so you feel comfortable.

hope that answers some questions : ) sorry for the ramble, my brain is tired after doing a ton of hw tonight.

Hi Katsie:

Thank you so much for taking the time to post!! It is so nice to hear from an "insider!" I was a little nervous about the curriculum, it seems like an awful lot of learning for only one year. But you don't seem to feel that it's too terribly onerous, and that makes me feel better! :) I hope you didn't experience too many bumps being the first cohort to attend the shorter program. I am heading up to Flag this weekend and plan to stop by student services to ask a few of my many questions. So excited! Best wishes, I'm sure it's difficult to believe you're in the home stretch. Wow, good for you!!!

This thread has been quiet for a long time! Has it moved somewhere else? How can I get on that email list? I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone. We should all organize a meet-up for coffee or drinks or something before May 16th orientation. Anyone up for that?
