Hello all, I just found out that I was admitted to the UofA accelerated BSN program:balloons: and with that comes a 2 year work committement at Carondolet. Just wanted to know if anyone had any tidbits, experiences or ANY information that they'd care to share with me. I am very excited about all of this and just wanted to share and be shared with. Thanks everyone!:wink2:

Specializes in Cardiac.

I've done 2 clinicals and 1 summer externship at carondelet. I can say that it's definately not bad at all. St. Mary's has the busiest ER in town, and everybody raves about their ICU. I did ortho and med-surg at St Mary's and tele at St Joe's. I liked the tele unit at SJH, the only problem was the ratios were 1:6. They were always busy! They always had a list of patients waiting to come up! The nurses in med-surg at SMH were definately not the nicest in town, but I least like how the floor is set up. It's definatley do-able.

Congrats on your admission!

Hey Michelle! I'm in at U of A too!!!!!!!!!!

Wooooooooooohooooooooooooooo!!!! :D :D :D

I will also be working at Carondelet. I'm glad to hear about the busy ER and ICU - those are the areas I'm considering. I'll see u in class - I'm so excited I don't know whether to laugh or cry!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey congrats to you too,

Yeah, I haven't been able to get this smile off of my face ever since opening that letter, that's for sure. Just got back from a celebratory dinner and i'm still beaming. Gosh, doesn't it feel good. Yeah, it's always good to hear good things about Carondolet, that's why I picked it I guess, keep those good things coming! Thanks for your input, and thank you to anyone else ahead of time.

Congrats to you!

Just out of curiosity, do you know what the minimum gpa is for UofAs accelerated program? What is the scoop on actually getting in?

Thank you soo much! I think the min. GPA is 2.75/3.0 but the average was a bit higher. I got the feeling from the info sessions/interviews that it was pretty competitive as there were SO MANY VERY qualified people there. I had a 3.6 in my undergrad with a 4.0 in my pre-reqs (and there were a lot) and I was still quite worried after meeting the other candidates. There were 109 interviewed out of a few hundred applicants and 64 were accepted. So, those are the stats and you can take what you'd like from those, but i'd say any direct-entry type program is pretty competitive but where there's a will there's ALWAYS a way and grandma and everyone else has always assured me. GOOD LUCK to you!
