Just trying to get feedback on Beville States Nursing program. I am currently looking for another school and want to find out how students rate their experience at this school.

Thanks

If you are looking for a nursing program that has no interest in your success. If you are looking for a nursing program that is so disorganized they don't know from week to week what they are doing. If you are looking for a nursing program that hires a brand new, just out of school, teacher and 4 people out of 66 pass her first exam, and the school blames the students. If you want a nursing program where many of the teachers just read to you, and tell you that you will have to learn the information on your own, instead of actually teaching then Bevill State may be the school for you.

We started last summer, 3rd semester, with 66 students and only 27 made it to 4th semester. Only approx. 7 people on the Sumiton campus actually passed the final exam due to the new teacher they hired. Many students that failed out went into the final exam with a low B average in the class.

I was very excited when I was accepted into Bevill St. nursing program. I had wanted to go to nursing school for a long time. That excitement wore off by the middle of the second semester.

Good luck.

I don't know anything about the Sumiton campus but I love the Fayette campus.

The teachers you have make all the difference. The brand new teacher I spoke of told the class she had been "teaching for years". I asked another teacher how long she had been teaching and the other teacher said "This is her first semester, and she has no business standing infront of a class trying to teach anything". Ours in sumiton are not all bad, but the bad ones overshadow the good ones.

BSCC is a good program and the instructor begining talked about was very much needed at bscc. She is fair but you will do it her way or leave. Nursing school is not for the weak. I took the same test and I am still on board as is many other students and we will be stronger because of her.

BSCC had two brand new teachers come in this past summer. One I am not familiar with, the other may be a great nurse, but she is definately not a teacher. Jasper11, I am "still on board" also. I am working on my second degree. I already have a BA from U of A. I have been in a college setting before and I know what college is like, and what a good professor (teacher) is. If you are happy with being read to like a 2nd grader, and having a teacher spend half the class telling you how great they are, then good for you. I on the other hand am more interested in learning what I need to pass the NCLEX, and not be totally lost when I start to work.

Sorry this is off the subject but when does Beville accept for there rn program ? is it spring and summer or just fall and summer. I plan to apply but cant get in touch with anyone on if I should take the teas if they are doing that now sum schppls want start until fall 2011

I graduated from BSCC, and I love the school and the teachers. The teachers that are the toughest are the ones you come to appreciate when you finish because they pushed you hard to not only succeed but to learn! I passed NCLEX in 45 minutes flat!

BSCC requires the TEAS test now. The incoming class this fall had to take it. They only have one RN class each year, and it starts in the fall.

I am friends with 3 prior grads of Bevill's RN program. That is why I chose to go there. Since they graduated, Bevill got in a bind with not having enough teachers, so they pretty much hired the first ones that applied. I did a test review last summer, with one of the new teachers. I didn't score as well as I felt I had. On one question I asked what was considered "severe" pain and she said anything from 7 and above. I then asked her why my answer was marked wrong, she changed her answer and said it is actually anything above an 8. She covered her butt on that one. Then on two other questions I asked why a certain question was the correct answer. After she told me I asked her why it was marked wrong on my scanton then. She then started backtracking, and telling me she didn't fully understand what the question was asking. ***!!! SHE GAVE THE FREAKING TEST!!! She is more interested in covering her butt and preaching to everyone in class how great of a nurse she was than actually teaching. Passing college classes does not make you a teacher. It just means you can pass some classes.

I will be so glad when this nightmare is over. I have steered 4 people away from Bevill St. so far. I am not the type of person that thinks just because I am there it is the greatest nursing program on earth.

I'm at the Fayette campus and love it! The teachers are tough but that's a good thing. Bevill applications are due April 1st. They will have you take the TEAS V at their campus when it's time. You would start in Aug. They took 80 this year. Bevill has a great program. Looked at several colleges and talked to a lot of people in the field and they overwhelmingly chose Bevill. They have a great NCLEX pass rate. Get as many of your pre-reqs done as possible it will make life easier. Study hard and you'll do well.

Every test I have taken I have walked away thinking some of the questions were crazy so hey I agree with ya on some of the questions. However, to compare teaching degree to nursing classes is comparing apples to oranges(no disrespect to your degree) these questions are setup to make you think so we will struggle with some of them. Know as far as supporting BSCC just because I attend the program is not going to happen. Maybe we just agree to disagree either way good luck and is May11 here yet?

Jasper11, I do not have a teaching degree. My degree is in finance. I was saying that I have had enough teachers in college that I know a good one when I have one, such as Mrs. Dotson, Mrs. Breed, and Dr. Childers. They take the time to do more than just go over the powerpoints.

Yes, we will have to agree to disagree. May cannot get here soon enough. Good luck with the rest of the program.
