Hey there, I am going to be a nurse grad in april of '06 and I put my resume into medhunters a few months ago. I have had 4 different agencies calling me each with their own little shpeals about how good their jobs are and how good the hospitals are. I wanna be in a good teaching hospital and not going to lie, definetly want the sign on bonuses. I just wish I knew who to trust cause a few sound a little scetchy. Any tips or recommendations from anyone?

Do your own homework and contact the facilities that you are interested in directly yourself. And best suggestion is to take and pass the NCLEX exam first. Please be aware that the process for even being able to work in the US is going to take you about six months, after you graduate, before you can actually start working. And that is at the earliest.

You cannot apply for licensure until after you actually have a completed set of transcripts. Allow at least two months for this, just the permission to sit for the exam. Then you must also get a Visa Screen Certificate thru CGFNS, again, this will take several months, at least usually. You will need the VSC to apply for the NAFTA TN Visa at the border.

Not all agencies are paid entirely by the facility, so do your homework. If they sound sleazy to you, they probably are. Sign on bonuses will usually go to the agency and not you. At least with the maojority of the agencies out there.

I had a recruiter call me monday and by tomorow (wed) she got me 4 interviews for hospitals in Arizona and Cali. One in particular that i like which iwas in Maryvale, AZ. But i feel like she's really rushing me into this considering I haven't even graduated yet. I just don't want to be jobless in canada waiting until i can actually move to the states.

Also, I have dual citizenship in the US, and just have to go fill out some forms with my mom. If I take the MN boards it only requires a transcript from my school which i will have april 15th. I really want to work in the glendale/scottsdale area I just fin dit hard to get a hold of these hospitals on my own.

You did not mention that you have dual citizenship. Definitely just contact the facilities in Scottsdale directly. There is Scottsdale North, as well as the facility on Osborn. There is also Mayo Clinic's facility. As well as others, but these are my favorites.

Glendale and Scottsdale are completely two different worlds.

So you definetly think its better to just apply to them directly? These recruiters make themselves sound liek they are miracle workers

Same boat here. I spoke with my recruiter and he had me working two days later! The only hold up was getting my background and drug screening done. How do you like Maryvale?
