hi! Ive applied for an assessment for RN in NSW. I can say that I know very much on the how to's in applying for bridging course in Australia since I did it on my own. I got the recommendation letter from the board and was advised to undergo a competence assessment program in the college of nursing in Burwood.

to make it short: (If u want to apply in NSW)

1. Take IELTS first, all 7 on all the components

2. Read the instructions on the website--www.nmb.nsw.gov.au

basically here are the most Important things:

a. go to PRC, request for verification of registration to be sent directly to the board

b. go to your university or college, request for transcript and nursing course description to be sent directly to the board

c. go to IDP or British Council, request for a copy of your all 7 each in all components of your report grade to be sent directly to the board

d. fill up the application form-http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/please-proceed-RN/default.aspx

(with the application form, you need to have it notarised, and pay $105 through credit card or money order etc)

that's basically the initial requirements to be sent to the nursing board

here is the information booklet that will guide you/checklist in filing your application:

http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/Info-Booklet/default.aspx

Assessment is a case to case basis but basically Overseas nurses are recommended to undergo the bridging course.

You will receive a recommendation letter from the nursing board stating the Nursing school that provides the bridging course or the school that you have to go to to get your registration training

Example of the recommendation letter:

If you get such letter,

Application process

2. Forward completed application form (and non-refundable application fee) along with the following documents:

* original letter of referral from the Nurses and Midwives Board of New South Wales

* a certified copy of your English language test result (Internationally educated nurses/midwives)

* a certified copy of your visa*(Internationally educated nurses/midwives)

* Applicants who will be applying for a short stay visa in order to undertake the program may be issued with a letter from the College that can be used to support their application for a visa when all other entry requirements have been met.

Note: Applications that are incomplete are unable to be processed.

3. Successful applicants will be notified by mail.

Applicants are advised not to finalise any personal arrangements until confirmation of a place in the program is received from The College of Nursing.

4. Confirmed applicants are required to attend the program enrolment session where all original documentation is to be presented for verification and proof of identity established. Applicants will be excluded from the program if the original documentation and eligibility cannot be verified. Outstanding fees are to be finalised at this time.

regarding your visa, you can get the student visa or visa 456 or if u have relatives, you can ask them to sponsor you (family sponsored)

regarding your schedule, the school will be the one to give you the date so u can apply the appropriate date of your travel.

If you have questions, feel free to ask :coollook:

oh geesh!I had the other documents notarized as well! I thought that's what the earlier section of the booklet said!:hdvwl:

oh well! atleast they can be sure about the authenticity of my documents..but boy was it expensive!:uhoh3:

Is it? hehe well my other documents I just had the lawyer/notary public just certify it as true copy of the original. But the notarization was for the application form particularly the statutory declaration. :)

@ julia: im just wondering.....is it true that the BRIDGING PROGRAM FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER-DECEMBER 2010 ? THE COLLEGE OF NURSING FROM NSW HAS JUST CANCELLED THE PROGRAM.........I JUST RECENTLY SAW IT.....IS IT TRUE? IM ANXIOUS

I'll try my best to read on that too...and believe me, I'm a lot more anxious than you are right now...and pressured...

I think miks' theory might occur. But considering the increasing demand for nurses in oz and also some of the information that I have read on the website, if they will recommend a new program, they will make sure that the processing will be faster and that the program will be followed through in a shorter amount of time..should this be the case, the might also increase the level of difficulty or require a suitable "test of knowledge and ability" exam. This way, they will be able to produce more competent nurses that will meet the said occupation demands at the same time...-->just a thought though:grn: let's keep our fingers crossed and our prayer booklets on hand..

you've mentioned that you called the nursing board. does that literally mean that they're not going to accept applications anymore?you see I'm a little bit confused because meseems in the bit of info that I've read in the website yesterday, they are still accepting applications but they are putting it on hold for the moment until the national scheme is implemented before they process it or commence recommendation. Have you submitted you docus already? My friends and I plan to submit it by this week.

Hi Jul, I didnt call the Nursing Board... but I called the College of Nursing in Burwood (the only school in NSW offering the Bridging Gap Program for Nurses) since the previous question was "Is it true that the BAP was cancelled?"...so yes the College of Nursing said that the July and September intakes for this year were already cancelled and that the last batch of BAP students are the ones from the February intake this year (ongoing).

You are right to say that the Nursing Board still receives applications, I received a similar email like the one u posted here...they also did'nt mention that they are putting anything on hold but they did say that if a decision about your application has not yet been finalized after the new national registration policy is implemented then it might affect our application. Well everything is a "might" so lets just relax LoL. I'm submitting my Documents tomorrow (application form and certified copies)... today will have everything ready, but my PRC, TOR and syllabus, IELTS were already sent. :)

thank you for your reply...believe me, it somehow quelled my anxiety..I hope that all our efforts result to fruition..I'll pray harder and work harder in order to achieve it.:) hope that we all succeed.:anpom:

good day everyone!

I already passed my IELTS (thank God)! and im ready to finalize my requirements for sending. but is there anyone here who's applying for NSW and Victoria at the same time? To be honest im now pondering on applying for Victoria as well because of the uncertainties in NSW esp. now that ive learned that the BP course in college of nursing already cancelled their july and sept. batch. Im thinking, since national registration will be implemented come july this year, I can take a BP in another state like Victoria (because applications are seemingly processed faster here than in other states and BP course will be more likely kept) and do a job hunt in NSW (where my relatives live) afterwards. Will that be possible, guys? any prons and cons about doing such? any insights will be appreciated. Thank you. :).

Grats Astro! I only applied in NSW since I have a sister who is a PR there...yes the BP in the College of Nursing did cease but they also said after July we will know whether they are re-opening it again or will have a new program offered for that matter but for sure there will be an available pathway for foreign nurses to be able to come in, we just don't know yet what it is. Well if you have the means why don't you apply at Victoria too especially now that you have all your requirements at hand :)

I agree with miks. If you don't mind paying the assesment fee for both, then why not? You'll have two options.not bad!:)

I agree miks, money matters here...i guess ill ask for some donation first. hays..lol. ill talk with my aunt first regarding this, and if she's willing to shoulder the expenses, then it won't be a problem. lol since she's bugging me to go to OZ ASAP I prolly give her some headaches first. haha. THANK YOU miks for always responding, I really appreciate it. Lord is with us. *wink*

Thank you Julia.I might give it a try, but I'll ask for my aunt's opinion first then ill decide. and I took my IELTS under british council again. I just learned yesterday that I passed and got at least 7 on all subtests, and I actually got a higher overall bandscore this time, God is good my friend. When are you retaking yours? I'll be praying for you. :)
