I'm asking this question for a friend ~ does anyone know if any hospitals in Connecticut are recruiting from abroad? I got a friend who lives in Ireland and has passed the NCLEX and would like to work in New Haven, CT. Thank you.

You might want to ask a moderator to move this to the CT nursing forum, you'd probably get more answers in that forum.

That being said, I live in CT and very close to New Haven. There is an overabundance of nurses (new grad and experienced) in this area (in CT in general) and its doubtful finding a job quickly, especially for new grads. Its a tough market here. Not many of the hospitals in the area are quick to hire new grads. They DO hire new grads but a lot of the job posts require 1-2 years RN experience.

I don't know of any hospital in the area recruiting nurses from abroad since they can have their pick from ones already here in the States.

Moved to the advice on immigration forum,

The issue really is finding a employer willing to wait the 3 plus years it will take to get visa and be able to live and work in the US. If BSN or over 12 years experience in a specialty you may have an option for H1b but many employers don't go this route due to $$$$$ costs

thank you both for your replies. The nurse in question has 14 years experience and a BSN and NCLEX. The 3 plus year visa thing is not very positive news. Thanks again.

The US has been affected by retrogression since 2006. For those in 2006 the wait was anything from 10 years onward it has only been in the last year or so that it has changed to a quicker time frame. If your friend has a Irish passport then they may have the option of the US lottery but it is a gamble to whether they get one or not but can apply every year
