Vanderbilt Pre-Specialty (for non-RNs) MSN 2013

Nursing Students NP Students

Hi All,

There doesn't seem to be a thread yet for pre-specialty applicants (the thread going now seems to consist mostly of grad entry), so I thought I'd start one! Any other pre-specialty folks out there? I am from Seattle and applied for the PMHNP track.

Looking forward to seeing who turns up!

Sarah

In regards to stats, I didn't do as well as I wanted to on the GRE. I got a 155 verbal and 148 quant and a 4.5 on the writing. My pre req GPA is 4.0, undergraduate degree in psychology with a 3.6. I have volunteer experience working with children with autism and other behavioral disorders. I have worked in a hospital for the last 4 years and have been volunteering in the PACU for about 6 months. I think that's everything!

You guys look to have awesome stats. I took the old GRE and I got 670 on Verbal, 760 on Quantitative, and a 5.0 on Analytical Writing. I have BS in Biological Anthropology and BA in History with a 3.8 overall GPA. My prereq GPA is 4.0. I spent a couple of years as a service missionary in Southeast Asia and Africa. I really don't have any healthcare employment experience or volunteer experience in a healthcare setting. After looking at you guys, kinda wishing I had now...

Has anyone applying for the FNP heard anything new?

Both your stats are very impressive! JB, you certainly aren't lacking in academics--there was at least one student last year who was waitlisted due to lack of experience, but then again, the purpose of the program is to create a path for those of us with different life experiences and training to become nurse practitioners. You had an interview, that is good news, now all you can do is wait and hope! ;) And for those of us who aren't selected to interview by the end of the month, at least the agony won't drag out until March...

Hi everyone! I'm also applying for PMHNP. I have a BS in psych and I graduated with a 3.78 and then I think my prereqs are right around a 3.85. As far as the GREs go, I got a 156 on quant, 160 on verbal and a 5 on writing. I have 4 years of clinical psychiatric research experience but only one summer of direct care experience from 6 years ago. No volunteer experience though. It looks like a lot of us are roughly in the same boat!!

I just called admissions and my application was also sent to faculty review on January 8th. Crossing my fingers for an interview.

I just received an email from another coordinator in admissions who said that all PMH applicants get interviews, contradicting what I was told by phone. Anyone know the truth?!

I just sent an email to the PMHNP program director with a question about the program and included a question about the interviews. I have a feeling she might know better than the admissions people since once the apps come in, it seems like admissions hands the apps out to their respective programs and that's the end of that. They just might honestly just not know. I'll let you know if/when I hear back!

Did you email Dr. ***********? She should know.

I also just emailed Dr. ********** to double check about the interviews. I've spoken to her before and she's very helpful so hopefully ill hear back soon.

Hey guys! I also applied to the program for ACNP. I am sooo nervous!!

Oops didn't realize we can't write faculty names.
