Vanderbilt Grad Entry 2012 Application

Published

Hello! I have seen forums for the previous years' application cycles, but not for the class starting fall 2012.

Sooo... how's it going for everyone? I take the GRE on Friday (gah!) so of course I'm trying to avoid studying for that!

Congrats AnaLong!!!!! What program!?

I currently live in Nashville. Rent averages around 800+/month for a one bedroom near campus. If you want to live farther out, in the Bellvue area then rent will be cheaper, but you have to deal with the traffic involved in the commute which can make it take you 45 minutes to get to campus. I would suggest checking out all the neighborhoods before making any decisions. (12south/berry hill/sylvan park/east nashville/green hills) I lived in 12 South for 3 years renting a house for 1,495 (3 bedroom 2 bath). I also lived in sylvan heights which is 5 minutes from campus. (paid 1,200 for a 2 bedroom 2.5 bath--however this was a steal because they currently go for 1,450)

My last roommate was from Seattle. She loves it here, but she also works in the music industry. The only thing that was hard for her to adjust to were the thunderstorms. The rain here is quite different from Seattle. Also, another person from Seattle didn't like that we didn't have a place that would sell good fish. (However, we are surrounded by states.... so it makes sense :) )

I currently am waiting on a letter. I am getting so worried as I still haven't heard anything. I got waitlisted at Duke today so I am not feeling the best. Vanderbilt is my number one choice because I really don't want to leave Nashville. I have to let Emory know by March 1st if I want to go there. So frustrating...

@asulliv4 I was wait listed at Duke today as well. Along with Emory. I haven't heard back from yet either.

No good fish! Haha well that's a dealbreaker! ;)

@KN4321: I applied to MGH and am waiting to hear back from them, and I was accepted at Marquette, but those are the only other schools I applied to. 's my first choice, so I'm not sitting on ice waiting for my MGH letter. I like how much "belief" the VUSN faculty have in the Prespecialty program- they're proud of it! But yep, I'm a young one.. I'll still be 21 when the program starts in August!

Maybe it also depends on how early you sent in your application. I sent mine in right at the deadline of December 1st...I am just trying to be hopeful.

@mellzie22 At least you will find out soon about the Emory waitlist since the due date for a deposit is the 1st. I imagine that will shorten it quite a bit! Are you applying for FNP/prespecialty as well? In my opinion, Emory was much better than Duke. It was like 100k for an ABSN which I think is ridiculous. At the end of the Emory and program, at least you will have your MSN. I also thought the facility was better at Emory. Hopefully you will get good news soon! I am in the same boat wondering when my letter will come!

@ asulliva4 I called today and they told me they are still reviewing apps from December 1st, so I am assuming it means they are still reviewing a lot in general. Did you check mail today? has anyone heard anything today?

Nothing for me today. Got wait-listed at my other top choice of school, so I'm praying that an acceptance from will come. Congrats again to everyone who's gotten in so far!

asulliv24 -- In general, is the weather pretty sunny and warm? Thunderstorms will be interesting!

Seattleite -- I am close in age, I am 22 right now and will be 23 when the program starts! I am wondering if we will be the youngest... I am also curious as why is your number one (as opposed to MGH). What is your major? Are you going to visit soon and figure out where to live?

Also, has anyone heard about whether it is hard to get a job out of a direct entry (pre-specialty) program like this? I have a couple nurse practitioners that have advised me to get my BSN first and then go back for a masters in NP-- mainly because you need to get RN experience. So I am wondering if anyone knows if it is hard to get hired as an NP without several years of RN experience?

The weather is pretty nice. I am biased coming from TN :). We had snow a lot last winter, but not so much this year. People cannot drive in the snow...that is the only bad thing. Also, my roommate had a lot of trouble with her sinuses. is an arboretum. So if you have seasonal allergies...it can cause sinus infections A LOT. I found out the hard way as did my roommate. In the summer, it can get pretty hot and humid. Other than that, the weather is pretty great!

Hey friends. I am so excited that so many of you got in. I am still dealing with the emotions about being waitlisted.... I know this is a lot to ask, but I have an interview on Friday with a different nursing program and I am really down about -- could anyone offer me advice on how to have a good interview? I know they are going to ask me "why nursing" just like Vandy did... can anyone who got in help me on a good answer? My answer is plain and simple: I want to be a nurse, I can't imagine doing anything else. But I don't think that is detailed enough haha. Basically, any advice from successful interview-ee's would really cheer me up and give me something to go with.

Good luck Barbaraleev!

@KN4321 I am in the FNP program. My letter was postmarked Feb. 17. Also I sent my application in, in September! That might also be why mine came so early.
