LPN seeking NP

Hello, I am currently a LPN in NY state and would like to become a nurse practitioner. I know that my next step is to obtain my RN but I am not quite sure what comes after that..? Any tips or tidbits would be very helpful! Thanks everyone! :)

well.you can get an ADn and then go into a direct entry program that will give you the baachelors and masters it will take 3 to 4 years when your get down with the bachelor part you will not have a degree but will have enought credits for BSN you have to complete the program with a masters to get the np. Or you can get the asn then do Bsn bridge then get the NP. you will have to look into what fits your needs. I did the LPN+ASN+BSN+MSN. I did not know about the ASN to FNP programs

There are ADN-MSN programs out there but there are not many of them. Had I known this was what I wanted to do, I would have got my BSN right off the bat. I would go for your BSN that way its all out of the way and you can apply to any graduate program you want! I did find a bridge program ADN-MSN, it will take 3 years.

Also, when I went to school, I got an Associate's in Applied Science, as opposed to an Associate's in Arts... it was less general ed courses and less time in school for me. Take this into account if you decide on an ADN because if you then want to just bridge to the BSN before your MSN, the Associate's in Applied Science does not give you the general ed courses required for the BSN, meaning you will have to take them before starting your BSN. SO, if you go for ADN, get the Associate's in Arts. Its more inclusive, yes more classes and more general ed stuff, but it will be better for you in the end.

Good Luck!

Same here... I'm an LPN from VA. & want to start working on my NP degree... I'm glad I found this post.
