I am a partner in General Practice and a fully qualified AP. Very occasoinally if I am on duty I may be asked as part of a consultation to listen to a Foetal Heart in a pregnant lady. I would not do this routinely of course. A situation happened where I did listen in and as a result a midwife is now threatening to report me to the NMC. I know I have had the right training to do this and I know I acted within the code of conduct. Apparantly by doing what I did I was impersonating a midwife! What are your views on this ? Is this something other APs do?
