Fellow AP views wanted for poor AP who is in trouble with the midwives!

I would love to hear views of other AP/ NPs in General Practice about his. I am a partner in General Practice and a fully qualified AP. Very occasoinally if I am on duty I may be asked as part of a consultation to listen to a Foetal Heart in a pregnant lady. I would not do this routinely of course. A situation happened where I did listen in and as a result a midwife is now threatening to report me to the NMC. I know I have had the right training to do this and I know I acted within the code of conduct. Apparantly by doing what I did I was impersonating a midwife! What are your views on this ? Is this something other APs do?

Hmmm - sounds like you are in the UK and I dont know the laws/rules there. In the US thats no biggie and Family or Adult NPs can certainly listen to fetal heart tones. In fact, we do pelvic exams too and take care of women up to 20 weeks gestation.
