Your input about fall and flip-flops

Hi allnurses,

I would love to hear anyone's insight about footwear and falls. On the table right now for our Unit Council, the Nurse Manager has asked us to consider allowing flip-flops to our Child & Adolescent Unit as well as the Crisis Unit and both of these are behavioral care units. The main reason staff are considering flip flops is that these patients are usually ambulatory, or often only own flip-flops (for example, the homeless). I have done some research, but have found very little. I am specifically wondering about flip-flops for agile youth and adults. In your practice have falls in flip flops occurred within this age range?

Thank you in advance for your input!
