17 y/o CNA looking for work

Published

Hi everyone! :)

I'm a new member to the site, and for my 1st post I wanted to see if anyone had any advice for me.

Well, I'm a current highschool senior who's scheduled to take the Texas CNA exam on the 28th. I was told by my instructor that it would be a good idea to apply for jobs prior to taking the exam. But I'm feeling VERY dicouraged. :sniff: Most of the LTC/AL facilities that I've been to only want someone who is 18 or older! Some of the applications have spaces to indicate that if you are under 18 you need proof of permission to work, and I do, (i've been working since I was 15), but I have a feeling that I might be overlooked due to my age. Which is so upsetting, because I've completed the same work as everyone else has.

Has anyone else been through this, or have any advice?

We have a couple of girls at my facility that are still in high school. I would recommend you go in and apply in person. They might overlook you when they see your age on paper, but if you make a good impression in person, they hopefully won't!
