Wright-Patterson or VA in Dayton, OH

Published

We might be moving to the Dayton, OH area for my husband's Air Guard job. I'm a RN and am interested in working at Wright-Pat or the VA in Dayton. (I'm a vet and enjoy working with veterans and their families) Does anybody have any info about either of these places or leaving in OH in general? My husband's family would be a few hours a way in Michigan, but we have no family in OH area. Not sure if they accept "outsiders" very easily or not. Thanks!

OH is great. My husband and I go there a few times a year for vacation. Everyone we have ever encountered there have been really nice. It is very beautiful there and from what I have researched, there are a lot of jobs there for RN's as well. My husband and I have talked about moving there. However, since I am trying and waiting to be accepted into the Air Force as a Neonatal Nurse, Wright-Patterson is not an option for me. :(

Check out this site for a list of the Hospitals/Medical Centers in OH: Ohio Hospitals and Medical Centers * OH

I am stationed at WPAFB right now as a RN. From what I've heard, it is exceedingly hard to get a RN position as a civilian locally. A lot of hiring freezes. A RN who got a position at WPAFB hospital (after about a year of trying) said she was picked from 30ish previous applications to work float for a downtown hospital before her acceptance to WPAFB. Got a call every morning at 0545 telling her if she was needed and on what floor, she said it was brutal. Only job that was taking applicants though. I have no idea how the job outlook is for the VA hospital. Let me know if you hear something different! Just wanted to give you a heads up not to expect a job right away.
