wound care certification

Published

Hello all

I have been a nurse for a little over a year however, I have 8 years of experiance in General surgery as a MA/ surg tech. I am interested in becoming wound care certified. Does anyone have any insight as to what programs are the best and how hard the courses are?

Thanks!!

Check out WCEI.net Wound Care Educational Institute. You can earn a WCC certification after 2 yrs of experience. Good Luck!

American Board of Wound Management offers specialty credentialing in wound care:

American Board of Wound Management > Home

Also the WOCNCB offers certification in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence, with the option to take the experiential route and challenge the exam with appropriate experience and CEU's:

Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board

Specializes in CWON - Certified Wound and Ostomy Nurse.

Did the WOCNCB route and highly recommend it although it is a best pricey. Several programs offer distance learning. For each specialty you choose you will be expected to complete 40 hours of clinical time (Wound, Ostomy, Continence) and then possibly a week at the school. Check out the program available at Emory University. It's great.
