I would love to get some input from novice nurses and how they felt when they transitioned from school to their first job. What areas were of the most importance to you? I want to do something meaningful, any takers? Thanks so very much in advance...we graduate in May(God willing)
L & M Group Presentation Project
Description
In-person group presentation of student selected and faculty approved relevant professional nursing practice issue/situation
Objective
To facilitate the senior nursing students' transitioning into the role of the professional nurse, with an emphasis on leadership and management concepts
Examples of relevant professional practice issues and situations include but are not limited to: effective professional communication, making decisions related to delegation of patient care and responsibilities, improving quality of health care, understanding legal parameters of nursing practice and dealing with ethical issues confronting nurses today. These suggested areas are the starting point for choosing a topic for the presentation. Students cannot present delegationâ€, they need to choose a specific concept/concepts from within this area. Example topics: Reasons novice nurses struggle with delegation. Communication = What are the outcomes of poor professional communication. Improving the quality of health care = What are the most common adverse events and how can they be avoided. Topics for presentation, MUST be approved by the faculty mentor, and those that are too broad/vague, will have points deducted.

The most important thing to me as a new graduate nurse was acquiring the skills and knowledge needed to practice safely. Having a supportive preceptor and nursing staff who were willing to teach was the number one factor in my success. Leadership and management was really well beyond my focus during my transition to nursing practice.
Thanks! So, I have come up with this The effects of nurse to patient ratios on patient/family centered care. I feel safety comes into play a LOT and it's very difficult to make sure a patient is safe while you are tending to MANY others, please nurses...what do you think?
