Working as a lab assistant before nursing school

Do you think that this is a beneficial route to take? I have my CNA license that's close to expiring , but because of the school's reputation, I cannot find work. I'm thinking of going to school to learn EKGs and phlebotomy, but I'm wondering if I should go this route or try to just redo the CNA thing.
