Working while going to DNP school.

Published

Hi,

I have just been accepted to the (Doctor of Nursing Practice) DNP program at the University of South Alabama. I will be working while in school. I currently work the Weekend program as a weekend supervisor, which can get very stressful at times. I only work two 12 hour shifts which would allow me the entire week off for school. I was thinking about taking a job in the hospital on the weekend nights. I would have to work two 12 hour shifts (Saturday & Sunday) and an 8 hour shift on Friday night. The difference is I would be responsible for eight patients instead of supervising 7 nurses and being responsible for 150-200 patients. I will be taking 6 hours per semester in the DNP program.

1. What would be the best schedule to work while in DNP school?

2. What are some opinions on my working the hospital floor nursing instead of the supervisory position I currently work as described above?

Thank you all for your help.
