Hey guys, my name is Savannah I'm 26 and trying so hard to get into the nursing program. Long story short, I flunked out of college in my early 20's got married, had 2 kids. Two daughters one is 2 1/2 the other pushing 8 months. I'm busting my butt trying to juggle being a full time student and mom. My husband works out of town all week and most weekends so it's like I'm basically a single mom at times. I'm so thankful for all my husband does for us so I can go back to school. Now I'm back trying to make this work I'm almost done with my core classes but my GPA fell to a 1.6 when I flunked out I have brought it up to a 2.16 in a short period of time but I need at least a 2.75 and with most programs they want a 3.0. So with that being said I'm taking as many classes as I can extra to get it as high as I can. I was wondering if anyone had any advice on time management or words of encouragement on my situation. I often feel as if I'm running in circles and there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel. I wait till the girls are in bed to do and studying or homework because being a mom comes first but I'm being drained fast by early mornings and LATE evenings plus my girls sometimes get up in the middle of the night so I'm running on basically 0 sleep all day. I don't have much help from anyone. My family doesn't live around here anymore and my husband's family can't help too much due to physical reasons. Is anyone else in my shoes or have been and can lend some helpful tips or words??
Much love,
Savvy ♡

My advice would be to mainly work on getting your GPA up. You really need to be above the minimum requirements to get into a nursing program - I would look into the requirements for the school(s) you are planning to apply to and go from there. Are you able to afford childcare? That might help (even if it is just a couple hours a few times a week) as far as finding time to study goes.
Good luck!
Unfortunately not so much on being able to afford child care besides what I am getting to be able to go to class. I'm pretty much at the mercy of friends and a few family members that can watch the girls. That is my main focus right now for sure to get my GPA up.

This is so crazy. My name is also Savannah and I'm also 26. Our stories are almost identical. I've got 2 kids.....but I have a girl and a boy, ages 5 and 3. I was super immature before my kids and so I had flunked out of my community college.
Fast forward two years. I managed to pull my crappy 1.3 GPA up to a 3.8 GPA. I just finished up my 2nd semester of nursing school. This time next year, I will graduate. Only 2 more semesters to go. I'm on the downhill slope of this journey. At least that's what I tell myself! LOL!
When I started back to school, my kids were 2 and 6 months. It is extremely hard. You just have to take it one day at a time. I've always heard that and to be honest, I kinda thought it was bogus. I tried it anyways. It's all I could do. I started out with the goal to pass A&P with an A. I did it. Then it was to get accepted to nursing school. I did it. My point is, set small goals and do it!! It also feels really good when you accomplish the goal, which really helped my self-esteem. I was so scared starting out. I wasn't sure I could do it. If you put in the time and effort, you will be surprised with what you can do.
As far as kids go, bedtime is really the best time to study. I've done it for two years. It's hard sometimes. I just try to focus on the fact that it's only short term. I know a lot of the moms in my class use daycare. Kids go to daycare everyday and when there's no class, the time is used for studying. If you're low income, assistance is available in paying for daycare. Check it out and find out your options.
The most important thing you can do is hang in there. Don't give up and keep pushing. I hear that it's worth it. So far, I've been really glad I've started this journey.
Oh wow!! How crazy, I'm so glad you saw this. Those words are what I needed. Thank you! When you started you were exactly where I am. It's nice to know you've come so far and your work has paid off! Congratulations! Thank you!
It's a small world, huh? Definitely weird seeing myself 2 years ago!! Kinda like deja vu. You can do it!!!!! Just take it one step at a time.

I'm thinking of doing pre-requisites for Nursing as well and now my local community college raised the GPA from 2.0 to 2.5 and you can only withdrawal or repeat 1 class. They're getting pretty tough now. It makes me nervous, so I'm debating between either take pre-requisite for RN or go for my LVN. But I say, hang in there, maybe getting a tutor will help boost up GPA. Whatever I decide on doing, I'm definitely investing in a tutor. Good luck to you, I know you can do it.
