Wondering if I should get my LVN License?

Published

Hi All,

I'm new here, and any advice would be much appreciated!

I am an esthetician living in California. I have always wanted to work under a dermatologist doing injections and laser treatments. In CA you have to be an RN in order to even do laser tx. I have a strong background in art & special fx makeup so I feel that administering fillers is something I would be good at. I also have several years experience of working in a media-spa type environment.

I was thinking about getting my LVN license and then doing the 30 units option to RN program. I have lots of questions and am having a hard time finding the answers online. Does anyone know of a good part-time LVN program that offers the course material online? Also, when you do the clinical portion, would they set you up at a local hospital or do you have to go into the college you are assigned to? I'm just wondering if It's essential to choose a college that is within a reasonable distance from my home.

Also, does anyone have experience with the 30 units option? I have read that it is only a good option if you are planning on always staying in CA, which we are (my husband works for the state, we own our home, and all our family is here). I'm okay with not technically having a degree since I would be looking for work in a private practice or medi-spa type setting, and I feel that my other licensure and experience would make up for that.
