I was reading an article in my local paper today about how the county hospital nurse recruiter admits to "wine & dine" new grads, and says all the hospitals do it, as they all need nurses.
I know the senior class of our program this year had luncheons at least twice from area hospitals with a "please come work for us!!" theme. I was curious as to those of you who experienced the same from future employers while you were in school, or after graduation.

i didn't experience that as a new grad but after i had been a nurse for about 6 months i got an email from a hospital in southern tx with an offer to relocate with a $10K bonus for 2 years. they sent for my husband & myself, put us up in a nice hotel, took us to south padre island, spent a butt load of money feeding us, had a rental car & set us up with a realtor to look at homes. i didnt accept the job but the recruiter told me in advance "why not have a free vacation on us". i loved the hospital but the base pay was a little too low. plus i wanted to travel & not be stuck in one place for 2 years.

For about 2 mos straight at our school for the seniors, they would have a different hospital come and bring lunch. They would come and bring information along with a bunch of free stuff/gift cards and promote their hospital. Then right at the end, all the hospitals that we had done clinicals in gave us an appreciation luncheon/job fair to recruit us too. I would think this is fairly normal practice in our area.
