will this prevent me from earning a masters?

Published

Hello all,

I will be graduating soon with a bsn (yay!). I'm happy, but also worried. It looks like I will have a gpa of 2.97. Can anyone give me any input as to how this may prevent me from getting accepted from getting a masters? Will this gpa prevent me from becoming a nurse practitioner or even a nurse anesthetist? What should I do? tell me your experiences.

thanks in advance!:)

Most graduate programs have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and a minimum score on the GRE, however there are some schools that will give you a provisional admission with a GPA slightly below their stated minimums. The "blue chip" schools may not give you a provisional, but some state or for-profit schools might. Even meeting the minimum GPA, however, is no guarantee that you'll be accepted. Most programs don't want to clog up a seat with someone they don't think can make it through. Staying in the program is even harder than getting in. Typically, your first "C" will require that you retake the course, and your second "C" gets you tossed from the program, never to return. Be prepared to study twice as long and hard as you did in the BSN program, then double that. Most schools require a tremendous amount of writing, so polish up your skills and learn to put everything you do in bulletproof APA format. I've had professors who would reject a paper with more than three APA errors, regardless of how good the content was, make you resubmit it, then take 10% off the grade. The CRNA programs are the hardest to get into, since there are not many of them in the first place, and the competition for seats is fierce.

Thanks for replying. I'm really thinking of going for my masters, but you are scaring me considering the fact that find using apa format complex. i will begin to research some schools.
