hi y'all... i just wanna share you guys my story... i'm a NLE passer of dec 2007 and currently employed not in a hospital, instead in a bpo... luckily, the clients that we were handling are australians so the schedule is also on a day shift... i accepted the job since 1. i have to pay some personal utilities, rent, and bills; 2. it was offered while waiting for the result and 3. i really thought that it can be my ticket to AU since there was a promise before we signed the contract that there is a chance that we could go there for training and stuff (which never materialised)..anyhow, this is somehow my plan a, since im also taking up MAN.. things are really going according to plan (wait here until i finish MAN, since no hospital will hire me anyway so why bother.. and settle all my finances before i embark into a leisureless life as a nurse)...
however, there are some things that happend in the office (no need for me to give out the details, its non-nursing stuff anyway)... most of them think that i'm the villian, but i think i'm just doing what is right and i'm just being professional.. so i seeked advice from my friend, she then adviced me to resign.. i must admit, i'm more than willing to resign after i asked for her advice.. but i said to myself, if i gave up that easy, it's like i accepted that they're right and i'm wrong...anyway, i was thinking of resigning first thing next year..
the inevitable question is, what will happen to me after i resign? sure, i can still continue my study since i still have enough money to enroll for summer, and after that my mom said that she will help me with my tuition (so no prob in that part)... but of course, i cannot let my parents handle all my expenses, i need to have a job to live... but i really dont want to get another bpo or marketing jobs... all i wanna apply after this is to become a staff nurse (which is close to imposible since no hospital in the metro is opeing their doors for us)...
i know, i'm only a small voice of the hundreds of thousands who are screaming "i wanna become a staff nurse...". i'm one of those non-practioning professional who'd rather wait for an opening rather than volunteer (which will not be counted as an experience), but my question is "until when are we going to wait for that slot?"...this is so frustrating... mind, body, and soul torture for us nurses whose parents' spent fortune for us to finish the course... with blood, sweat and tears just to pass the exam.. and now what, were just gonna be sitting and answer phone calls??? no way, never again!!!
2009 is really tricky... im really hoping that this year, filipino nurses will be able to see the silver lining behind the dark clouds... now, with the current situation that the nurses are facing here in the country, do u guys think i'm doing the right thing by resigning??? or should i swallow my pride and stay for a while and continue with plan a??? and lastly, what do you think will happen next???

nowadays it is really hard to find a job in the hospital, however i suggest that you start applying now-- although it is much better if you start it after the holidays. Your advance degree might be your competitive edge over the others. Most hospitals hire nurses with an advance degree because it just shows that you are continually striving for professional advancement. Contrary to the belief that all major tertiary hospitals had freeze their hiring, I can say that there are still few hospitals that are looking for nurses. I have worked for two major hospitals both in the metro and in cavite and I can say that there are still vacancies although the turnover is quite slow due to retrogression. I resigned from a tertiary hospital last December for NCLEX and IELTS. After finishing the exams I too, even with a year of experience had a hard time finding for a job. But I didnt stop looking for one, just recently I was hired in Asian Hospital (by God's grace)It took me about 2 months from the time I passed the requirements to the time I was hired. Try to pass the requirements in all hospitals including the primary and secondary hospitals. Although being a volunteer is discouraged since it doesnt count as an experience abroad, you may try it while waiting for a better job;after a year of not being able to practice your profession, it is an admitted matter that nursing skills get a little "rusty" and volunteering might help to hone your skills. Goodluck to your nursing career and hopefully you find a nursing job!:wink2:

If you have saved money or if your parents/relatives etc can shoulder your bills for the next 2-3 years then I guess it's acceptable to resign and re-pursue your Nursing career.
But if you want to be practical then I suggest that you resign when you've found a satisfactory paying job. If that means a job as a staff nurse or call center agent, well that's your decision based on the opportunities available to you.
As an aside, I see more and more newly licensed nurses taking MAN since they can't find a job right now. While I don't doubt that it doesn't hurt and is far better than being idle, I sincerely doubt that a nurse with a MAN but no hospital experience will have a significant advantage over someone with actual staff nurse experience or even against nurses with various volunteers and trainings under their belt. Just my 2 cents. :)
thanks for the advice..yeah, after more than a year not practicing nursing, i can honestly say that my kSA needs a little honing.. but i do hope that luck will meet my way on 2009..

i guess i dont have any other options left.. anyway, i have decided already that im going to leave my job first thing next year.. just gonna wait for my Christmas bonus... i cant blame other licensed nurses for taking up MAN without an experience since: 1. very few agencies/hospitals will accept newly grad/without experience; 2. its better than just sitting our butts of the couch watching telenovelas from sunrise til sundown; and lastly 3. this will(or might) help our cv look more intresting.. albeit it will boils down to the result of the exam and interview, i guess they will (or hopefully might) consider our cv another glance if they saw that we have MAN.. anyway, thanks a lot for your feedback..
