WIA and Concorde in arlington,tx

Published

OK here I go...

I've been unemployed for over a year, I use to run a custom frameshop/ art gallery. I am currently looking to enroll in Concorde in Arlington,TX for the LVN program. Yes I know its not the best option but with no pre-reqs, a three year old and another due in the end of June and location I really cant find much better at this time. What Im wondering is how long does it take to get through the WIA program here in Texas? I just learned about the program and Concorde is listed so I would love to use the program for finacial help. I applied for finacial aid but due to the fact that I and the wife made so much in 2008 i only got 1300 in pell for first semester which starts Feb 8. Second semster should be better cause I was unemployed for all of last year. Still this school is running around 25000. Thats ALOT but like i said Ive got alot already going on and can not take the time to go through commuity college. So has anyone used WIA? how long to get through program? How much do they pay for? Should I give up my desire to become a nurse and just head back to the frameshops? Thanks

First off, you need to go and talk with a WIA counselor ASAP!!! Here in Louisiana the process takes about four weeks. The program pays for your book, uniform, tuition and other necessities. You may also need to take a test to qualify for the money. I started the process in early December and today I found out that I am receiving WIA funds, so the process can take a long time but stick with it.

Im set to attend orientation tomorrow and Ive already completed most of whats on their checklist. Some of the workforce offices are sooooo backed up the one closest to me isnt allowing people in until May. Will the program pay for all of the schooling? Some post have said they received only 1500 if thats the case its not really worth the wait for me. Ive spent the last month reading biology texts, nursing ethics books, as well as prepping for the NET exam. Im so ready to go to school, i think, i hope.

It depends on the state and the amount of funding that they have left. WIA is paying all but a small portion for my classes, books and uniforms. I think that it never hurts to try, even if you do get 1,500, that's 1,500 that you didn't have before to pay for school. The process is very long and can take forever but for me in the end it was worth it.
