Who's using AmniSure?

Hey OB nurses

We were talking about getting AmniSure at our staff meeting today and I was wondering if anyone else is using it? Good? Bad? Sounds so much simpler (and less invasive!) than doing a sterile spec to rule out PROM!

Thanks for any replies!

We were using them. We were doing nitrazine, amnisure and testing for furning(the whole steile spec exam thing) to compare the accuracies. We quickly quit using the amnisure, found they didn't work well enough.

We have recently started using amnisure and love it so far. We use nitrazine first and if it is inconclusive use the amnisure to save on cost. For example I had a pt the other day and the nitrazine was inconclusive (green) so I used the amnisure which resulted negative. We also did a sterile spec just to be sure and that was negative as well. So far it has been pretty accurate for us.

Thanks for your replies! Anyone else on this board using AmniSure on their unit??

We use Amnisure and like it. You can get a false negative if there is too much fluid, but if someone is leaking puddles, why bother with the amnisure anyway. You can also get a false negative if her membranes have been ruptured over 12 hours and she is no longer leaking, but I'm not sure you'd get ferning in that situation either.

We are thinking of trialing these...any other thoughts or suggestions? Good or bad? Cost effective? Accurate?
