Which route should I go?

Hey everyone I am new to this so not sure where to post this question so I will start here. I am currently attending a community college and trying to get my pre reqs out of the way so that I can get on the waiting list there for the RN program. Problem is there is a 2 1/2 year wait to get in as of now and I don't even have my name on the list yet. I am wondering if there is a quicker route or if anyone in knows of anything in Colorado that would get me in school quicker. Someone told me that you can go the LPN route and then directly to the RN route? What do you know about this? I need suggestions on which way to go. The reason that I am at a community college right now is because the University (CSU) doesn't have a nursing program and I am just wanting to do my associates RN right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A 2.5 year wait is a LONG wait if you ask me.

Are there any other community colleges around that have shorter lists? I think the longest one I have heard of was a year and a half.

I don't live in CO so I don't have any advice specific to that, but I would suggest checking out other schools. I agree the ADN is a good way to go, and there is nothing wrong w/going to a community college.

I know some schools if you are an LPN/LVN (same thing) first, then you can get your RN in 1 year instead of 2 (or something similar to that). I think it's a good idea to have some form of healthcare experience either while you are in the RN program, or before. So I would not be opposed to getting your LVN/LPN if that is what it comes down to.

I would check out other community colleges and see what their wait list is...2.5 years is a really long time.

Yeowch, a 2.5 year wait. Isn't that a shame? Near me, near Chicago, there are five different community colleges that I have talked with over the last ten years or so and all of them have waitlists, (I do think I am kind of high on the list since I finally did put myself on one!) Although, it turns out that even though four year universities cost more that they might be a better route towards your nursing degree.

I am believer in attending a junior college to get all of your core courses and pre-requisties done and then transfer to a four year institution to complete the final two years for your RN.

I do not know if you can move to do this but, you have those two years to wait so, maybe looking into this could be an option.

I met a student from Seattle who decided to get the experience of Chicago and chose that as her school.
