I'm trying to decide which RNC certification I want to get. I work at a hospital, where we do L&D, postpartum, normal newborn, and SCN all on the same unit. So, we get a little variety and get to do different thing. I know that the inpatient OB would be beneficial for me, but I really find SCN intriguing as well. I have no intentions of leaving my current job - I love my job. But, we are a level II nursery and rarely see anything truely serious in our babies. Generally, if they are deemed high risk, they deliver at a Level III facility. However, we have had a couple pneumos (one of which 90ccs was pulled of a kid) before transfers. I have been involved in several transfers of kiddos, but the fact is, that we generally are not caring for these kids for very long before they are shipped out. I would be very interested in this certification, I just don't know if that is something that will truely benefit my job as much or if I will use the skills and information learned from that certification?
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

inpatient ob seems to be the right choice. SCN is good for those who live and breathe it day in and day out. it will be very specialized. inpatient ob is a comprehensive certification. good luck to you
