When should I take Classes?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hi everyone, I have a question. I am going to nursing school part-time right now, and I was thinking that I would like to get certified to be a CNA. Problem is, I have to work at my current job another year before I can leave. I want to take CNA classes this summer, because I have some time, but I can't look for a job in this capacity until next summer. Does it make any sense to get certified now if I cannot work in that capacity right away? Will it be a lot harder to try to find a job if I wait?

I would go ahead and take it if you can find the time. Cause you could do home work and make your own schedule. You will be a busy person though trying to work and go to school. And plus put in this class also. I wish you luck.

Do it whenever it's most convenient for you. I don't think an employer will care if you didn't work as a CNA immediately.

Just check out the regulations for your state if you're going to be cutting it close to the one-year mark because some (or maybe all, I don't know) states require you to work at least one shift a year to keep your certificate. So if you take a class now and finish in June and then don't find a job until August of the following summer you might have to certify again.
