I know the usual drug testing is required...are there any other testings required?

For me I had to go in and fill out a whole stack of paperwork including release for a background check. I had to bring in a copy of my drivers license, social security card, and BLS card. I had to go down to the lab and have blood drawn, urine, and a TB screen. I have to go back today and have my TB checked, fill out my insurance paperwork, and get my picture taken for my badge. Then I'm ready to start orientation! Good luck!
ugh, why they check your blood? this is the thing, i don't mind giving people needles, but i hate getting a needle myself

Some places will check your hep b titers or mmr titres, particularly with the recent mumps outbreaks. I just had to show proof that I had titres drawn within a certain timeframe....
I also had to take a PBDS after hire during my orientation, to assess my knowledge I guess...I took it last friday, it took like 5 hours! Wasn't fun, but it wasn't horrible.

Of course it depends on the facility but here's what I had to do...
- meeting with my nurse-manager to fill out unit paperwork, decide on a start date and meet my preceptor
- complete a urine drug screen and physical (including having blood drawn to check titers for rubella, rubeola, & varicella)
- take a medication exam (50 multiple choice questions, no big deal)
- meeting with HR to fill out tax paperwork, go over benefits package, ID badge, set a date to attend hospital-wide orientation
Needless to say all this took a few hours!

Sometimes the tax paperwork, ID badge etc. are done within the hospital orientation, so it will just depend on the facility. Congrats & best of luck to you!
