What's in a name?

Just started thinking that my job might not be much different from others...At my work we've named the portable vs machine Rosie, after Rosie from the Jetson's (one of the nurses thought it looked like her), and we've named the bariatric wheelchair Big Bertha. What names do you have for instruments/tools/whatever where you work?

I have a resident with dementia who will only let us use the mechanical lift if we call it a "tractor". I also like to call fancy walkers "cadilacs?

My last job called the VS machine "Frank" haha. Don't ask me why!, because I don't know.

Our big chair is Big Bertha too! My last job we got a digital baby scale and named it Edgar.

haha! now that's funny! I like that!

We have a volunteer who is wonderful, but sometimes a touch overzealous. He always makes a list of the empty beds for the secretary, charge, and triage nurses. We have dubbed it a "frank list". The techs will ask, "do you want me to make a Frank list?" and EVERYONE knows exactly what we are talking about...

We didn't name it, but my unit secretary and I recently discovered that when you turn on a radiant warmer in anticipation of an admission, you can play with the alarms in such a way as to create techno beats. (We're nerds, and we just started getting cardiac neonates in our PICU, so the whole warmer thing is new to us.) I think we need DJ names...

Our portable computers are called "Cows" - Computer On WheelS. We use 'em for charting and med admins and drag them with us to patient rooms.

On the MOU (Med-Oncology Unit), some of 'em have felt ears, tail, patches on 'em :)

cheers,

MOU-COWS. Too funny. They'd be a big hit here in Cheeseheadland.

I just had an AH HA moment. So thats why they are called cows. hmmmmmmm

We call the portable vitals machine "Nurse on a stick" and the really big wheelchair "the Cadillac"

when i first worked at a place with"cows" i asked if they were jerseys or holsteins.....it was no longer funny when i had to explain it to those "city slickers", lol

We have cows too,, and they sure die fast if their tails are unplugged very long. Ill have to get some spotted felt and try the ear/tail thing. Could be just what our unit needs to lighten up a bit.
