What's your exposure control plan? Need answer ASAP

Published

My district Asst. Supers just informed me for this reason and that, that they will not approach a student for bloodwork in an exposure case. I was stuck with a used needle at work and went to an urgent care that day. Our work comp wasn't open past 5pm so I had to go to urgent care. I followed up with them one week from when I was stuck. Both places told me standard procedure is to ask the patient (in this case parent) to test for HIV, Hep B, etc. Try explaining any of this to non-med professionals. The head nurse of our department was away, there is no policy for exposure. There is "something on HIV" but I haven't seen it yet and it doesn't include what to do. You know there are other significant exposures like blood in mucous membranes.

Please share your policies, if there isn't let me know that too and if you have any references for policies let me know please. Also, generally, any advice on how to get the ball rolling here? We need that policy so nobody has to wait for two weeks now to figure out how to ask, where to draw, who will pay etc.

Thanks a mil.

I don't think my district has a policy, BUT we will...at the first day of school next year...its my new priority!
