What Would You Do?

Hello All:

I also posted this on General Nursing Discussion...

I have been accepted to a ASN fulltime-day program (Fall 09) at a Community College and a BSN full-time evening program (Sp 10). I work full-time days and make a decent salary in this tough economy. The ASN is cheaper, less credit hours (10 max per semester), and is a great program. However, I would have to quit my job which I'm not sure I could do, financially. Not sure if I would be able to find a decent paying part-time job.

I have all of my pre-reqs for the BSN program. It's in the evenings but its 5-nights per week (2nd semester on....). Also a good school. Roughly 12 - 16 credit hrs per semester (5 semesters total). It is extremely expensive so I would need to take out additional private loans to pay for it but I could still work at my current job. I would have to eventually switch to a part-time job but probably not until third semester.

My only issue is our financial situation. I have a hubby, kid, and lots of expenses. I'm afraid to quit my job now they way things are going in this economy. What would you do?

money always complicates things!

i think someone else on here mentioned a similar problem and that they'd planned on saving up to have a little something for when they couldn't work. Maybe you could do that.

Probably, if it were me, i'd go with the ASN program, try to work at least part-time or something if u could,or try saving up. it's cheaper, and i heard a lot of employers will pay for you to go back and get ur BSN if you want. SO that's prob. what i'd do...

Well that's a tough one. It would be nice to not have to work while attending nursing school. School is tough and a lot of people in my class have now cut down their hours at work or quit their jobs all together because it became too much for them. If you can afford not to work then that may help you in the long run. However, it sounds to me like you may not be able to afford to quit. You already have credits toward a BA so I think if it were me that is the route I would go. There are many, many hospital with loan forgiveness so I wouldn't worry to much about the extra cost.:twocents:
