What are types of settings/ 'jobs' I could have as a psych nurse???

Published

I am applying for a direct entry program for fall 2018 for psychiatry mental health nursing. My question is, 'what kind of jobs', or how much flexibility in job choice such as setting do you have as a mental health nurse?

One of the professor's who was guiding the orientation (at Yale, I live in Connecticut), was saying there's a variety of different settings you can work in, not just a hospital. What are the variety of settings?

To be honest, I don't really want to be in a hospital setting long term or for my whole career. *Of course* I am more than willing to do what's necessary starting out and to gain experience, or if that's where my first job ends up then so be it. And who knows, maybe I'd like a hospital setting, I'm willing to try it. It's just in my gut I've never been drawn to working at a hospital per say.

My background is in therapy, I love mental health. However, I want to expand my capabilities and over the years I've gained much more interest in the medical side of mental health. And I won't lie, a much better paying career choice.

Any feedback is extremely appreciated. Thank you.
