What do sign with?

Do you sign documents not job related with RN like personal documents? I know this maybe a stupid question but I was just wondering!

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

I used to do that a lot on personal checks and signing for meds at the pharmacy. Haven't done it in years because I'm no longer in the profession, but every now and then I catch myself about to sign ML_______RN.

Specializes in Nurse Leader specializing in Labor & Delivery.

No, not at all. In fact, half the time I don’t even use “RN” at work - only if I’m signing something that’s related to patient documentation.

I just realized I left the you out of the title oops!! It was supposed to be "What do you sign with?"

Why would you?

Specializes in School Nursing, Pediatrics.

Never. There is no need to or no reason why you need to sign with RN, unless it is specifically for work documentation.

Specializes in kids.

Not on purpose~!!! but sometimes it happens!!

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

No, I don't. Nobody needs to know that much about me.

I remember being brand new and tremendously proud of my credentials. I am still tremendously proud of them, but settling in and maturing into my career has tempered the desire to show them off to that degree.

Specializes in ICU.

I'm a new grad -- just getting used to signing with my title. No, I would say I never use RN outside of the hospital...but I'm in the process of buying my first home and my bank has seen their fair share of "___, RN" ?‍♀️ Whoops!

A supervisor (a really older lady who had been an RN for more than 50 years) told me one time that she was always signing her checks with RN back in the days when we wrote checks at the grocery store.

Specializes in Psych (25 years), Medical (15 years).

And there are so very many closing forms to sign, isn't there, beekindRN?

I sign my name in one fell swoop. There's an old state form I used nearly 30 years ago when I worked at the state hospital that is still used where I am presently employed. It's that's called a Restriction of Rights form.

Like most forms generated by the government, it's illogically redundant, having probably a half a dozen places for the author of the form to sign, so my signature often looks like this:

sig.png.f46ced324e1dc0e28b304c8ba6999426.png

If the patient wants a copy of the form, I change my signature to this, so they don't know both my first and last name:

Like computer passwords, I have different signatures for different types of forms.
