would you recommend reading to become a better nurse? Along the same lines, what clinical skills do you see new nursing school graduates most lacking? Do you have any advice for speeding the rate at which these skills can be acquired or brought up to speed?

Hey Roland,
I would recommend subscribing to a nursing journal that's peer-reviewed (AJN for example). Books are good but to truly stay up-to-date and feel current with your knowledge and practice, a journal is a good way to go.
I am a new nurse and I haven't noticed in my setting any nurses disappointed in new nurses' skills. I think the most important thing is to be a "task seeker." Be that nurse who longs to do certain procedures and tells the nurses this so that if they have a patient with that situation, they will think of YOU!
