Hi I am doing a term paper on my patient that had a colostomy w/hartman and I was wondering if you could tell me what it means when the report says...
"it looks a little dusky..." is he refering to the color of the stoma?
Also what the heck is "Paracolic gutter?" Ok I FOUND this one
But Edited to add - I have looked all over the web for a definition for intramural abcess...any thoughts??
TIA
these were the only 2 things I didn't understand on her discharge summary...
This case is very interesting and it's fun to dive into a case like this. I appreciate your help.

Sounds like you could use an online medical dictionary. This one's free; just type in the word you want on the search field.

PS If you can't find a definition for a 2-word term, try doing a search of the separate items.

Well I think I understand the terms now - looking up seperately helped :)
But I'd still like to know if "dusky" would be terming the stoma color or what was in the bag??
stoma color, because that's one of the things you check a colostomy for.
should be pink/red, with pink, intact skin around site, etc.
New stomas should look like this:http://www.ostomates.org/stomapics/colopics.html
Thanks I thought so but didn't want to quote it wrong in my apa paper. I used that websight for a few of my references - it was really helpful. Now I just have to put it all together to get 13 pages - thanks for your time .
Have a great weekend :)
No prob, Julie, have a great weekend. I'm sure you'll get an "A."
