As with many areas, we are struggling with the nursing shortage. I am interested to know what your company does to retain you? What perks are you given? How your on-call is compensated? What does your company do to ensure your case-loads are reasonable? Unfortunately, I do not have the final say on these things, but as a manager I want to fight for the best compensation for my staff that I can get. I am interested in what you, as a Hospice nurse, would consider ideal perks, compensation, schedules, salary, etc for an experienced Hospice nurse in the Southeast.

We do not use our full time case managers for on call at all. We have a separate staff for that. If we are short staffed for on call we are offered time and 1/2 for anyone willing to do on-call. Most of our nurses appreciate this and would rather work here than our competitors where they are pulling a lot of on call. We still do have times of high census and we try as much as we can to utilize the prns that we have to help. We have very good PTO benefits (35 days per year.) I can't help you with the salary in the SE.
Thanks for the information. I am writing a proposal as we speak for our VP. I am hoping to come up with a plan that will relieve stress of our nurses as well as meet the requirements of budget. We have some PRN nurses and I am also considering a call team. Thanks for replying to my post! :)
