What the heck do these NLN preadmission scores really mean?

Hello everyone,

I am a first time poster so be gentle :nuke: I just received my NLN preadmission test scores today( I took the test 03/07/08) and I am trying to figure out how my scores will fare in the admission process. My own interpretation is that I did well, however, I would like some feedback from others who have taken the test and have a better handle on interpreting the scores. Ok here goes:

Composite score : 134

Composite Percentile score:96 (DI) 92 (AD) 94 (all)

Verbal: 53

Math:24

Science:42

I am super nervous and just want to ease my fears:uhoh21:. I was a nervous wreck taking the test and I wanted to reschedule because I forgot about it and didnt study (on the train going there a lil bit) but it was too late. I've been out of high school for about ten years and so this all a bit much for me but I am excited. I applied to LICH school of nursing and Beth Israel school of nursing.

I think those are really good scores. I believe that your precentile means that you basically did better than 94% of the people in those programs (the other applicants). I think when i took it, i got a composite of like 141 and 98/99%, and i was in the 1st round of students accepted to the program, and it had been higher than others that i spoke to- so i think your score is great. But, it depends on how the other applicants to your program did, because that's who you're score is compared to.

Good luck!

You did really well! Schools mainly look at the composite percentile score so you were in the top 92% for everyone applying to an associate's program. The scores for the math, verbal, and science are the actual raw scores of how you did for each section. I know it's hard, but try not to worry. I applied to both those schools as well and am now just waiting to find out what will happen so I know exactly how you feel, but rest assured you don't have to worry about your NLN score! Hope you hear something from them! Good luck!

An admissions counselor from Farmingdale College once told me what the NLN exams/scores are used for: to help sort through the volumes of applications by taking the highest scores (from NLN) and then opening the transcripts and applications for that candidate(s), then working down from there. Basically, the better you did on the NLN, the morely likely the chance that he/she will even look at your application.

I took the NLN test for Adelphi last Saturday, and I think I did great on everything but the math section. Do you think high scores on the Verbal and science sections will buffer the low score on the math section of the NLN? Hope so! That's the one thing I'm nervous about!

Hmmm Im not sure but I hope so.. .because that was definitely a trouble area for me. I remember sitting there during the test trying to remember the formulas for the simplest equations . . . .I had serious brain freeze during that portion of the test:D! Good Luck to you I am sure they will look favorably upon your better scores on verbal and science.
