What was your GPA when you got accepted into an accel-BSN program?

I know these programs are very competitive. Heck I thought I had a good GPA and scored high in the GREs and still got rejected by UMB (they didn't require GREs).

My personal GPA undergrad is 3.86, and a 3.9 in all my prereqs. I was rejected from the only accelerated BSN program I applied to. They look at the applications as a whole, so do not be discouraged. You never know. Best of Luck to You!!!

Hi butterfly,

In contrast to Caroline, I had a completely different GPA... that of 2.9 undergrad cumulative, and then like a 3.2 for pre-reqs and I still have to take 2 before I start in the fall!

That being said, this proves that most schools really do look at the whole person. I have an extensive resume throughout both my undergraduate and post-grad career, and I think that made up for my GPA. It honestly depends on the school; some are very GPA/GRE oriented, and some really don't care as much about numbers and just really want a well-rounded person. Caroline is also right in saying they are highly competitive. With the economy as it is right now, many people are considering school as a way out and to boost their resume to get new/better jobs - therefore the volume of applicants is a lot higher right now. When will you be done with undergrad? You may have some time to either retake some classes you did bad in, or just keep taking other ones to do well and strengthen your possible application? Just an idea. :thankya:

I am glad my comments are somehow useful. Well the ideal nursing school application wouldn't be mine that's for sure. I underestimated the process, the schools I picked as safety schools, and I sent very vague essays, didn't adjust my resume, threw in professional references instead of academic ones. These being told stands for UMB and MGH and Simmons (still haven't heard from them, and hoping to maybe get in). Also applied in the last minute and the last two school. UMB just lost my application, so not really my fault on that one.

My strong application was UMass med. , second year in a row I apply. Last year I was wait listed, then accepted in July , weeks prior to the program starting. I said, No since I wasn't done with all my prereqs. I re-applied, picked 2 academic references and 1 professional, wrote a nice essay on their chosen topic, adjusted my resume , re took the GREs, got a higher score. Again, Pamela is right, they don't just look at the GPA, they look at the whole packet. My friend also applied with me at Umass medical for the direct entry nursing and med. school part. She also applied at MGH and BU Med. excellent GPA of 4.0, great references, essay, Chemical Eng. degree and yup she got wait listed by MGH, got into BU Med. and Umass medical school (not nursing). Proves Pamela's point again.

Keep your hopes up and try over and over again, don't give up if it's your dream. It my dream, and rejection is hard to take, specially when you fight so hard during undergrad maintain a perfect GPA and at the end being turned away for an unknown reason...it hurts.

I am certain you will get in, you sound like a very determined person and you will make a great :nurse: one day:) Best of Luck to you, keep us updated :)
