I am an RN thinking about joining the Navy and I have been trying to look up the training for it. Do nurses have to go to OCS to become an officer or are we already an officer and just have to go to the 5 week ODS? And is that all the training before you get your first station assigned to you? If someone could help me with the timeline of this whole process I would greatly appreciate that. Also, how is the training? Is it more like boot camp or do they focus more on job training?
I would appreciate any help I can get with this decision.

Nurses go to ODS prior to first duty station. You'll get your orders for both your ODS date and your duty station prior to commissioning. This is how it has worked for me, headed to ODS in October.

I'm currently waiting to hear back from my recruiters as to whether or not I'm in and if I'm leaving for ODS in Oct - when did you submit your kit to the board? I'm just anxious to hear back from them.
I started my process back in March. I had to lose about 60 lbs before I could go to MEPS and therefore before my kit could be submitted. I went to MEPS on July 5th, my kit was submitted as soon as MEPS sent my info to my recruiter, and I found out on Aug 3rd I got selected. Pretty quick process for me, would have been alot quicker had I not had to lose the weight.
